The Southern Steak and Oyster's Tennessee Burger with pimiento cheese and fried onion rings.

Nashville has no shortage of great burgers. Numerous lists acclaim the top 10 each year. Stalwarts such as Gabby’s Burgers and Fries, Brown’s Diner, and Rotiers, usually make the list, as well as new ones to even it out (Pharmacy, PM, Burger Republic). Here is one of our favorites, mainly because you won’t find it elsewhere, and it trumpets the south. It’s The Southern Burger at The Southern Steak and Oyster. It uses pimiento cheese made from Kenny’s Farmhouse cheddar, cured in-house jalapeno bacon, and thinly sliced fried onion rings. Wow. To recreate one at home, start with sustainable grass-fed beef (Bear Creek Farm, Double H Farms, Angus Grassfed Beef, or Tennessee Grass Fed), add your favorite pimiento cheese (or use Sean Brock’s recipe here), and maybe French’s fried onion rings from the little can.

Other local burgers with pimento cheese:

“Wash Park”—beef burger, pimiento cheese, bacon jam, on a biscuit at Biscuit Love.

"The Ramsey Pimento Cheese Burger"—pimiento cheese, pickels, red onion, bibb lettuce at Burger Up

“The Tennessee Patty Melt”—beef patty, pimiento cheese, applewood bacon, caramelized Dickel No. 8 whiskey onions at Kitchen Notes at The Omni Hotel.

"Taste of the South"––angus beef, a fried jalapeño and bacon pimento cheese patty, Jack Daniels BBQ bacon, quick pickles at Burger Republic

We love this southern burger from Burger Up.
