A sweet tale of living with the seasons, appreciating nature’s bounty, good neighbors and friends, makes this one of the most inspirational and warm reads ever. A must for anyone trying to live a more meaningful life with the land. Living off foods locally sourced is hard.

Living off foods locally sourced on $40 a week is harder still. Add to that the heartache and stress of a broken marriage and unemployment and you have a compelling tale. But Robin Mather’s story is one of triumph and healing and finding our true selves. Her stories of small town life in Michigan with her bird, Pip, dog, Boon, friend, Wally, and the rhythms of a kitchen in sync with the seasons, makes us want to hole up in Hohenwald and live off the land. It’s not all roses though, as she battles below freezing temperatures with only a small wood stove, constant power outages and at times few freinds. But the trials are what make the strawberry preserves of spring that much sweeter. While the story takes place in Michigan, Mather now lives in Kansas. However, the journey is universal.
